Terms of Service

Tenalord is operated by Tenalord Limited (Kampala, Uganda). We run an online marketplace that connects people looking for a place to rent (tenants) directly with the people who own or manage it (landlords). We are not a broker, an estate agent or a party to any rental agreement.

We don't collect rent, deposits or any money for a property. Rent, deposits and the terms of a tenancy are agreed directly between the tenant and the landlord.

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
• Give accurate details, including a working email and a Ugandan mobile number you control.
• Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One person, one account. Don't create accounts for someone else without their permission.
• You choose a tenant or landlord account when you sign up. Staff accounts are created by us only.

You can browse listings for free. To view a home you send a viewing request to the landlord through Tenalord.

• The landlord's phone number is shown to you only after they accept your viewing request.
• Never pay anything before you have viewed a home. No genuine landlord on Tenalord needs a booking fee, viewing fee or deposit before a viewing. If anyone asks, report the listing.
• Reviews you leave after a completed viewing are public. Keep them honest and about your own experience.
• Free accounts include a limited number of viewing requests each month. Paid plans include more.

By publishing a listing you confirm that:

• You own the property or are authorised by the owner to rent it out.
• The photos, video, price, location and description are accurate and current, and the photos are of that property.
• The price shown is the real rent. You won't ask tenants for fees that aren't in the listing.
• You will mark the listing as rented, or archive it, once it is no longer available.
• You won't discriminate against tenants unlawfully.

New listings may be reviewed by our team before they go live, and our systems check listings for signs of scams. We may edit, hold back or remove a listing that breaks these terms. Admin edits to listings are recorded.

Landlords can apply for a verified badge by submitting their National Identification Number, photos of the front and back of their National ID, and a selfie. A member of our team reviews each request by hand.

• Verification is a paid monthly add-on. The badge shows only while the add-on is active.
• If the add-on lapses, the badge is hidden but your verified status stays on record. Renewing brings it back without new documents.
• We may reject a request, or remove a badge, if documents are unclear, don't match, or turn out to be false.
• A verified badge confirms identity only. It is not a guarantee about a property or a landlord's conduct.

How we handle your documents is explained in our Privacy Policy.

• Current plans and prices are listed on our pricing page. Prices are in Uganda Shillings.
• Payments are processed by Pesapal and can be made by MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money or card.
• Each payment covers one month. Plans do not renew automatically; paying again before a plan ends adds another month.
• When a plan ends, your account returns to the free plan and its limits.
• We may change prices for future purchases. A change never affects a month you have already paid for. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.

• Post fake, misleading or duplicate listings, or listings for property you have no right to rent.
• Ask for money before a viewing, or use Tenalord to run a scam.
• Act as a broker or charge tenants a commission for introductions made through Tenalord.
• Harass, threaten or discriminate against other users.
• Upload content you don't have the rights to, or that is unlawful, explicit or offensive.
• Scrape the site, use bots, or try to get around limits, security or verification.

Anyone signed in can report a listing. Our team reviews reports and may archive listings, suspend accounts or both. A suspended account can't sign in, list, request viewings, review or report, and a suspended landlord's listings are hidden.

We tell you by email when we suspend or reinstate your account, with the reason. If you think we got it wrong, contact us. We may share information with the police where we believe a crime has been committed.

You keep ownership of the photos, videos, descriptions and reviews you post. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, resize and share them on Tenalord and in links to Tenalord for as long as they are on the site.

We work hard to keep scams off Tenalord, but we don't inspect properties and can't guarantee that every listing, landlord or tenant is genuine. Tenancies are between tenants and landlords; we are not responsible for their terms, for the condition of a property, or for money paid outside Tenalord.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Ugandan consumer law that can't be limited.

• We may update these terms. We'll change the date above and email you about significant changes.
• You can stop using Tenalord at any time and ask us to delete your account through the contact page.
• These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda, and the courts of Uganda have jurisdiction.
